Misguided Advertising

“Creative without strategy is called ‘art.’ Creative with strategy is called ‘advertising.'”
  -Jef I. Richards

While there are countless creative genius in the advertising industry, some of these creatives seem to have forgotten who they were supposed to be talking to and the tone in which their messages should have been communicated.  Here are some of the worst advertising campaigns I found…some of the ads are just hilarious!  I mean, did they even have a strategy for some of these campaigns??  What were they thinking?!?!  Enjoy!

I'm sure this beer company is hoping to really connect with all those pregnant women out there who want nothing more than to throw on their little bikini tops and enjoy a cold beer!!!

I think that the creative’s behind this ad campaign might have forgotten who they were actually talking to, and what they were actually talking about!!  While the visual creativity of this ad might successfully grab a person’s attention, there’s nothing about the ad that actually resonates!  Was the non-alcoholic beer company really targeting pregnant women?  And did they really think that these pregnant women would relate to wearing a little, gold bikini??  Was there even a communication strategy at all behind this ad campaign?!  If so, it definitely missed the mark…

Interesting ad, but absolutely no relevance to anyone!

Did they really think that showing a male vampire with tampons for fangs and the tagline "very absorbent" would make women want to run out and buy this brand??

As a woman, I’d have to say that I find this ad just plain scary!  Was there a group of men behind the creation of this ad??  Because I don’t know if any woman would enjoy this visual during their ‘time-of-the-month’!  What brand benefits are they trying to highlight?  What are they really trying to say with this ad?  I really think that when this visual is paired with the words “Very Absorbent,” the tagline turns in to more of a punch-line to a joke!

Given the current cultural trend of 'Going Green' and being environmentally friendly, I think Shermann-Williams paint really missed the mark when creating their logo!

Given the current cultural trend of 'Going Green' and being environmentally friendly, I think Shermann-Williams paint really missed the mark when creating their logo!

The logo and slogan make it seem like Shermann-Williams’ main objective is to drown the earth in goopy, oily paint. And why red paint? It seriously looks like blood.  Obviously the paint brand isn’t trying to make an attack on Mother Nature, but they are also definitely out of touch with the current cultural attitude towards the environment…it’s a touchy subject, they need to be more careful and find a better communication strategy for sure!

Well those are just a couple of the creative, yet TOTALLY misguided and, therefore, funny ads that I stumbled across today!  Until tomorrow… peace&love
